Engagement ring
THE ENGAGEMENT RING, SYMBOL OF UNPARALLELED LOVE…
A pledge of eternal and unchanging love, the engagement ring represents more than a symbol; it is an integral part of the couple's story. Its selection shows that every encounter is unique and that this piece of jewelry, made from precious materials such as white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold, is nothing other than the reflection of a noble sentiment, nurtured by two hearts ready to seal their lives through a first commitment. Lorenz Bäumer specializes in the online sale of gold jewelry, particularly diamond engagement rings. We would be delighted to assist you in choosing a unique engagement ring from our House's collection that truly reflects your feelings.
Origins and traditions of the engagement ring
In France and throughout the world, engagement rings have a special symbolic history: they tell the story of your life. The attachment to this ring, which symbolizes a promise of marriage, is rooted in a tradition that spans history. From antiquity, this ring was a sign of the dowry paid, a symbolism that quickly evolved before becoming the romantic symbol of dedication between two partners that it is today.
Before marriage, a man often offers a solitaire ring to his future wife, as a sign of a promise of marriage. In France, this tradition is still relevant, although it has evolved: previously, the engagement ring was reserved for nobles and upper-class individuals. However, at that time, it was common for men to wear a ring, whereas today, over 90% of men tend to offer this ring to their future wives and only wear a wedding band on the wedding day.
With this romantic custom, women generally keep their engagement ring for life, to which they add their wedding band on the wedding day. Indeed, this unique ring is usually worn on the same finger as the wedding band (the left ring finger) because a vein directly connects this finger to the heart. The circular shape of the ring is no accident: it represents eternal, infinite, and faithful love. At its center is usually set a quality diamond, of the weight and carat count of your choice. Because love is priceless, solitaires, wedding bands, rings, Maison Lorenz Bäumer invites you to consult its collection of engagement rings.
How to choose your engagement ring?
A true declaration of love, an engagement ring deserves to be chosen with care. It should not be forgotten that it will be unique and that the lucky woman will wear it all her life. There are even beliefs that give this jewel the power to connect the left ring finger directly to the heart, like a vein. Given this symbolic web woven around the women's engagement ring, the search for increasingly noble and precious materials has become a perpetual challenge for jewelers. Several criteria must be taken into account before choosing an engagement ring model: which stone suits you or reflects your temperament, which material matches your taste and skin tone, and finally which shape you like and enhances your personality and style? For example, the diamond engagement ring is the most common because the diamond is a symbol of eternity. But you can also choose from other precious stones for your engagement ring: ruby, sapphire or emerald. An engagement ring set with a diamond or another precious stone can also have a diamond pavé on the band, or be surrounded by a halo of colored diamonds or other colored stones.

Pierre and color, follow your heart's instinct
Highly prized by women, the most popular stone among couples for their engagement ring is the diamond. To distinguish a diamond ring that can be worn on different occasions from a diamond engagement ring, it is important to know that in the context of an exchange of vows, the diamond is more often a solitaire, while for classic diamond rings, it is small and multiple, or sometimes even combined with other stones. A unique and timeless stone, the white diamond combines elegance and delicacy while easily matching any other jewelry and clothing style. For choosing your diamond jewelry, there are 4 criteria not to be overlooked: the 4 Cs. These specificities correspond to the diamond's weight, cut, color, and clarity (Color, Cut, Clarity, Carat).
If you wish to add a touch of color to your women's engagement ring, stones such as sapphire, with its beautiful blue hue, emerald with its shimmering green, ruby, a true symbol of passion thanks to its red color, or tourmaline, available in pink or blue, lend themselves to all desires. These colored stones convey a delicate message of emotion and stand out for their originality; you just need to follow your heart to make the best choice. As for the size and shape, this will mainly depend on your taste and budget. On our site, more than thirty different precious and semi-precious stones are offered to allow you to play with the subtle variations of colors, a collection much appreciated by Lorenz Bäumer.

Which material should I choose?
The best way to avoid making a mistake is simply to harmonize your choice with the jewelry your loved one prefers. The yellow gold engagement ring particularly enhances olive skin tones. It is durable and never loses its color. It's worth noting that 18-carat yellow gold is composed of 75% 24-carat pure yellow gold and 25% other metals such as copper or silver. Indeed, due to its overly soft consistency, 24-carat fine gold cannot be worked without this subtle mixture. There is also another type of alloy that produces 9-carat gold. In this case, 24-carat fine or pure gold represents 37.5% of the total composition of the material. Although yellow gold is the most classic, more and more women prefer to adorn themselves with white gold. A white gold engagement ring consists of 75% yellow gold and 25% other metal such as silver, zinc, or nickel. If you are looking for a remarkable or unique creation, rose gold is on the rise. A rose gold engagement ring is composed of 75% pure 24-carat gold, 20% copper, and 5% other material, which gives it its sublime pink color. Bäumer Vendôme works with noble and precious jewelry materials: 9 or 18-carat gold to offer you an exceptional piece of jewelry, just like your story.

What shape of stone to choose?
As explained previously, white diamonds are most often set as the center stone on engagement rings, as well as a pavé of white diamonds. Indeed, the diamond has a strong and particular symbolism and goes perfectly with cold materials such as platinum or 750 thousandths white gold. However, other precious stones such as sapphire, emerald or ruby are full of meaning and have particular characteristics capable of enhancing the band of engagement rings.
It is important to choose a shape that you like for a solitaire. For this, Maison Lorenz Bäumer assists you in choosing different solitaire models as well as quality stones. Indeed, if you wish to embark on the adventure of custom-made, we can help you create a unique and original engagement ring with colors different from the usual ones: opt for a platinum setting, with a ruby, a sapphire or an emerald of the size you wish to give a unique style to your ring and bring fantasy to your finger. You can also have your ring paved with diamonds of the number of carats you wish and also add an engraving.

How to clean and polish your engagement ring
Maintaining your engagement ring allows it to retain all its brilliance despite the ravages of time. Remember to regularly polish your gold jewelry with a chamois cloth. If you have chosen a white gold set, it may yellow slightly over time as the alloy is initially composed of 75% yellow gold. In this case, it may be necessary to apply a thin layer of Rhodium to preserve its beautiful gray color and make it stainless. If necessary, do not hesitate to visit your jeweler to maintain and polish your ring. If it is a yellow gold diamond engagement ring, you can soak it in slightly warm soapy water for a few minutes and then gently scrub it with a small soft brush, before wiping it with a cloth. Soap can be replaced by a little baking soda. Please note, this advice does not apply to white or rose gold and is not recommended for other precious stones, which you can simply clean with a microfiber cloth dampened with water and a little rubbing alcohol. Indeed, the brush and baking soda could scratch them.
HOW TO WEAR YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING?
The most classic and traditional way to wear an engagement ring is on the ring finger of the left hand. The choice of the ring finger stems from an Egyptian myth that states there is only one vein that can connect directly to the heart, and that vein is found in the ring finger. However, depending on the country and its customs, or even your personal preferences for aesthetic reasons, other options are possible. In most countries, both the engagement ring and the wedding band are worn on the left ring finger, but in some countries, like Germany, the ring finger of the right hand is strictly reserved for the wedding band.
